Electric Buses

The funding program "Electric Buses" of the state of Hesse has been specifically targeting since 2017 the environmentally friendly development of public local transport and the reduction of regional emissions. It offers public transport operators as well as municipal transport companies the opportunity to procure locally emission-free buses with battery or fuel cell technology. Accompanying subsidies are provided for the establishment of the necessary charging and refueling infrastructure to ensure seamless operation. A prerequisite for an eligible measure is the location of the registered office or operating site in Hesse, proof of operation as a public local transport provider, and a concrete project for the procurement of electric or fuel cell buses. Both investments in new vehicle fleets and the construction of charging stations or refueling facilities are funded, thereby supporting the state's urban development and climate protection goals in the long term.

Interested transport companies can submit their applications on an ongoing basis but must take into account that submissions are currently suspended. As part of the broad thematic area "Smart Cities & Regions," the program is positioned in connection with environmental and nature conservation, digitalization, and infrastructure financing. The goal is to anchor modern mobility concepts in Hessian cities and districts while simultaneously contributing to the sustainable development of energy efficiency and climate protection. By promoting emission-free drive systems, not only are pollutant emissions to be reduced, but new impulses for innovative transport planning and future-oriented infrastructure are also to be set.
