Electromobility (Innovation Promotion Hesse)

Funding Objective and Eligible Applicants
The “Electromobility” program of the Hessen Innovation Funding supports Hessian municipalities, associations, and small to medium-sized enterprises in investments in charging infrastructure and the electrification of their vehicle fleets. The goal is to reduce CO₂ emissions and accelerate the market penetration of electric vehicles throughout Hessen. A prerequisite for application is having a registered office or place of business in Hessen. Additionally, the project location must be owned or documented with proof of usage rights. A binding commitment period of five years ensures that charging stations and funded vehicles are permanently used within the state of Hessen. The funding amount covers up to 40% of eligible expenses; for SMEs and municipalities, up to 40% is possible; the maximum grant amounts to €300,000. The project duration is limited to 24 months; accompanying costs such as planning, earthworks, grid connection, and charging management systems are also eligible for funding.

Procedure and Evaluation Criteria
Funding applications can be submitted continuously, with the earliest project start date being November 1, 2025. A complete application includes a concept, economic viability calculation, proof of ownership, and comparative offers. The grant is provided as a non-repayable subsidy. Evaluation criteria include the use case (e.g., long-distance traffic vs. inner-city charging needs), number and power class of charging points, public accessibility, and implementation speed. Particularly attractive projects are characterized by high charging capacity (> 400 kW), rapid commissioning, and unrestricted public availability. Funds are available until November 15, 2027. Projects completed before February 2026 will be given priority. Through the state initiative “Strom bewegt” (Electricity Moves), the Hessen Agency also offers consulting and training on electromobility and charging infrastructure to sustainably support the expansion of climate-friendly mobility throughout the state.
