Endless Splendor of Colors – Heathland Development

In Lower Saxony, the Nature Conservation Foundation in the Diepholz district is committed to preserving nutrient-poor heath and poor grassland sites through an ongoing grant program. Private individuals, public institutions, and non-profit organizations can apply for funding for nature conservation management measures. The goal is to preserve the characteristic fauna and flora of the heath areas in the long term by preventing overgrowth and the accumulation of large humus layers through mulching, clearing, mowing, and grazing. The funding requirements include the location of the areas within the district, their suitability as heath or poor grassland sites, and proof of professional management plans. Supported measures include mulching and clearing work, adapted mowing and grazing measures, as well as other site-specific management activities.

The program primarily targets owners and managers of heath areas – including farmers, municipalities, nature conservation associations, and committed private individuals. The funding aims to ensure environmentally friendly use that maintains the ecological value of these special habitats. Interested parties can submit applications at any time to receive grants for the planning and implementation of their management concepts. The initiative thus makes an important contribution to species and habitat protection in Lower Saxony and strengthens regional nature conservation activities in the interest of sustainable landscape management.
