Description

With the aim of advancing energy efficiency and climate protection in education, the state of Schleswig-Holstein promotes the energy-related renovation and optimization of school facilities. Eligible to apply are financially weak municipalities, cities, and districts wishing to invest in public general education and vocational schools, special education centers, school dormitories, as well as school-used sports and swimming halls. Replacement new constructions are also considered when renovation is uneconomical. The funding – provided as a non-repayable grant – covers up to 90% of eligible expenses and aims at a permanent reduction of operating costs as well as the sustainable modernization of infrastructure. The funding is thematically anchored in the areas of energy efficiency & renewable energies, infrastructure & urban development, and climate protection.

Prerequisites for a grant include, among others, a proven long-term public-law need, a construction start from July 1, 2015, and a building age of at least ten years at the project start. Furthermore, the measures must at least meet the requirements of the Energy Saving Ordinance and must not already be financed by other funding programs. Wind energy and photovoltaic systems are also considered non-eligible investments. Applications can be submitted at any time to the Investment Bank Schleswig-Holstein, which, as the state's central funding bank, accompanies the entire process from consultation to disbursement. This enables municipalities to continuously realize innovative projects and benefit from the attractive funding rate.
