Description

The program “Energy Saving in Households: Consultation and Appliance Replacement” supports individuals affected by poverty with their main residence in Austria (nationwide as well as Vienna) through needs-based energy-saving consultations and the free replacement of inefficient large electrical appliances. The goal is the sustainable reduction of energy consumption, the strengthening of climate protection measures, and the alleviation of energy poverty in low-income households. Funding is provided as a 100% grant for consultation costs and appliance replacement and is administered by the Climate and Energy Fund in cooperation with commissioned social counseling centers of Caritas and Volkshilfe. Participants receive a comprehensive analysis of their consumption situation, recommendations on ventilation and heating habits, as well as a targeted recommendation for the replacement of refrigerators, freezers, fridge-freezer combinations, dishwashers, washing machines, or electric stoves/ovens.

To apply, proof of exemption from ORF fees, a heating cost subsidy, receipt of social assistance/compensatory allowance, or housing allowance is required. The process consists of an initial consultation to verify eligibility, an on-site energy-saving consultation by qualified energy advisors, and the appliance recommendation, followed by the formal application through the social counseling centers. Funding covers consultation and travel costs as well as delivery, installation, training, and proper disposal of the old appliance. Small household and entertainment electronics, lighting, boilers/water heaters, repairs, and new equipment due to relocation are excluded. Required documents include a copy of ID, registration certificate, contact details, and proof of eligibility. Applications can be submitted from 23 February 2023 until the budget is exhausted or at the latest until 28 February 2026 on an ongoing basis.
