Description
The funding call aims at the development and demonstration of innovative ecodesign concepts for consumer electronics in the EU to significantly improve durability, reusability, reparability, and recyclability. At the same time, the increased use of recyclates and the testing of business models such as product leasing or service systems are encouraged. Funding is available for companies of all sizes, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and public bodies collaborating in a consortium of at least three independent institutions from EU member states or associated countries. Expenditures for personnel, materials, subcontractor services, and travel are eligible for 70% funding, with a maximum grant amount of €5 million. The project duration spans 36 months. A timely online submission by 22.09.2027, proof of legal entity status, and own funds for project success are prerequisites. Evaluation criteria include the degree of innovation, impact relevance, and quality and efficiency of implementation, with interdisciplinary expertise and the inclusion of social sciences and humanities being welcomed.
The focus lies on the development of durable, dismantlable device concepts and optimized material flows for a circular economy in the electronics sector. Manufacturers, research institutions, as well as consumer and environmental organizations can jointly implement pilot projects and explore incentives such as extended warranties or reduced VAT rates. Early market and legal analyses (RoHS, product liability, SSbD chemical safety) and the application of the Product Environmental Footprint method are integral components. The call supports the EU Ecodesign Regulation, the Green Deal, and the vision of a sustainable circular economy. Following positive evaluation, projects will be invited for contract preparation – until then, no entitlement to funding arises. Interested consortium partners have the opportunity to connect via the partner search function of the EU funding platform.
