Description

The Distance Allowance supports job-seeking individuals and apprenticeship seekers throughout Austria who cannot find suitable employment in the local labor market and are willing to accept a more distant job or training position. The aim of the measure is to increase labor market participation and reduce unemployment through financial compensation for relocation and commuting costs. Eligibility for funding requires registered unemployment, the absence of a reasonable job within a reasonable distance, acceptance of a more distant job or apprenticeship, and a gross monthly income of no more than 2,700 euros. Applications can be submitted continuously to the Public Employment Service (AMS), and prior contact for labor market policy clarification is recommended.

Travel and rental costs are funded with a subsidy rate of 66.67 percent, up to a maximum of 260 euros for travel expenses and 400 euros for accommodation per month. The allowance is granted to workers for up to 26 weeks and to apprentices for up to 52 weeks; reapplication is possible and can total up to two years (or the duration of the apprenticeship for apprentices). A deductible of one third as well as possible cost contributions from other agencies are deducted. Through the Distance Allowance, applicants receive support to pursue professional opportunities in other regions and to integrate into the labor market in the long term.
