Description

The program Compensation Payments and Promotion of Preventive Measures for Wolves, Beavers, and Otters offers ongoing support in the Salzburg region to animal owners, farmers, fisheries, as well as other natural or legal persons. The goal is the long-term protection of the wild species wolf, beaver, and otter through voluntary compensation payments to offset economic losses and through the promotion of targeted preventive measures. Applications can be submitted at any time, with the funding rate ranging from 40% up to a maximum of 100% of eligible expenses, depending on the measure.

Funding is provided, among other things, for investments in wolf-repellent fences, electric and fixed fences, material costs for protective measures, as well as livestock guardian dogs. Prerequisites include an official determination of the damage-causing animal, application submission within six months of this determination, proof of economic personal contribution, and disclosure of any funding already received or applied for. Ongoing personnel and maintenance costs, veterinary and feed costs are excluded. Required documents include the application form “Predator Damage Compensation,” the form for livestock protection measures, the form for otter and beaver protection, an official attack report, and proof of other funding. This program sustainably strengthens a low-conflict coexistence of humans and animals in rural areas.
