Description
The investment grant "Improvement of Residential Comfort" supports renovation measures in multi-apartment buildings in Vienna and offers up to 35% funding of eligible costs, with a maximum of €70 per m² of usable floor area. A simultaneous thermal-energy renovation is a prerequisite. Funding is provided for barrier-free modifications in communal areas, redesigns of courtyard spaces, as well as the establishment of stroller and bicycle storage rooms. The support also includes building services improvements – such as intercom systems or modern telecommunications equipment – as well as soundproofing measures between residential and common building areas. Measures to enhance safety, including smoke ventilation systems, fall protection, and pressure boosting systems for drinking water supply, can also be subsidized. For summer heat protection, the installation of suitable sun protection systems is eligible for funding, provided that building physics evidence is submitted.
The funding is aimed at owners and tenants of apartments in existing multi-apartment buildings in Vienna who wish to optimize the residential comfort, functionality, and accessibility of their buildings. Applications can be submitted continuously; there is no exclusion deadline. For the application, current land register excerpts, topographies with rent and owner lists, and, if applicable, plans, construction orders, and cost estimates are required. The funding program is administered by the Municipal Department 50 of the City of Vienna – Housing Promotion and Conciliation Office for Housing Law Matters – and aims to secure affordable, high-quality housing as well as to promote a balanced social mix in the capital.
