Description
The Eric Kandel Young Neuroscientists Prize honors outstanding early-career researchers in the field of neuroscience every two years. Under the patronage of the Federal Minister for Research, Technology and Space, the prize named after Nobel laureate Prof. Dr. Eric Kandel is awarded in cooperation with the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS). European neuroscientists under the age of 40 are selected based on their independent research achievements and publication record in leading journals, demonstrating exceptional scientific creativity. The age limit may be extended by up to two years per child in the case of parental leave. An internationally composed jury, including multiple Nobel laureates, decides on the award of the prize endowed with a total of €100,000, consisting of €50,000 prize money and €50,000 research funding.
Nominations are made by third parties and require a nomination letter as well as evidence of publications and a curriculum vitae. In addition to financial support, the award includes an invitation to deliver the Eric Kandel Prize Lecture at the FENS Forum, providing the laureates with an outstanding platform to present their work. Thus, the Gemeinnützige Hertie Foundation not only promotes scientific excellence but also specifically supports the further career advancement of young neuroscientists in Europe. The award ceremony will take place at the next FENS Forum in Barcelona, bringing the honored researchers into the spotlight of the international scientific community.
