Description
Since October 1, 2024, the state of Burgenland has been providing a flat-rate subsidy for travel costs of private vehicles for people with disabilities whose main residence is in Burgenland and for whom public transportation is unreasonable or unavailable. Eligible trips include travel to sheltered employment, schooling and education, vocational integration measures, as well as to partial inpatient care services. Accompanying persons necessary for the execution of the trips are included to the same extent. The flat-rate reimbursement corresponds to the official mileage allowance; empty trips are excluded. Eligible applicants are Austrian citizens, persons entitled to asylum, or individuals who have been legally and permanently resident in the federal territory for at least five years. Proof of the unreasonableness of public transportation must be provided by a cost estimate from a transport company.
The funding is granted as a 100% subsidy and is unlimited in time: applications can be submitted at any time from the entry into force of the Burgenland Equal Opportunities Act at the district administrative authorities or magistrates of statutory cities. Required are the completed application form with the documents listed therein and, if applicable, a cost estimate. The aim of the measure is to enable people with disabilities to participate equally in work, education, and care services, thereby reducing barriers in the mobility sector. The transparent processing is carried out via digital e-government applications and personal consultation appointments with the responsible authorities. Further details on the procedure and requirements are regulated in the Burgenland Equal Opportunities Act (§ 16 Bgld. ChG).
