European Territorial Cooperation (INTERREG V) in Bavaria

INTERREG V Bavaria promotes cross-border cooperation in the Bavaria region and adjacent EU partner regions. As a grant program with funding rates ranging from 50% to 75%, it targets companies, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, public bodies, cooperatives, as well as start-ups. The focus is on projects related to regional development, infrastructure, urban planning, digitalization, energy efficiency, renewable energies, environmental and nature conservation, climate protection, research & innovation, as well as agriculture and rural development. The initiative supports the sustainable strengthening of regional value creation and innovation through joint projects that foster social cohesion and expand cross-border networks. Applications can be submitted continuously depending on the thematic call and allow funding amounts of up to €2 million per project.

A prerequisite for funding is a partnership with at least one organization from an adjacent EU region as well as a registered office or branch in Bavaria or the partner region. Project contributions to regional development and sustainability are as binding as a comprehensive project description, financing plan, partnership declaration, and detailed cost calculation. Eligible expenses include personnel and material costs, investments, travel expenses, and public relations – retrospective costs, financing costs, and land acquisition are excluded. The maximum project duration is 36 months. Evaluation is based on the degree of innovation, the added value of cross-border cooperation, ecological sustainability aspects, and regional anchoring. Through the combined expertise within the project consortium, a sustainable impetus is created for the economy and society in Bavaria and its neighboring regions.
