Description

The funding measure "Factory processes and automation for de- and re-manufacturing (RIA)" within the framework of the "Made in Europe" partnership is aimed at consortia consisting of industrial companies, research institutions, public bodies, and non-profit organizations within the EU. The objective is to test and validate novel technologies for resource-efficient circular economy in factory hubs. Funding is provided for multimodal sensor technology and AI-supported analysis systems, robotic automation solutions, digital twins, as well as modular in-situ processes for disassembly, refurbishment, and reuse of components and products. The RIA program offers start-up funding of €5 to 6.5 million per project (100% funding rate) to cover research, development, personnel, and material costs at laboratory and pilot scale. The unified application submission is to be made electronically by 2 February 2027, with the planned project duration starting from September 2026.

Interested SMEs, large manufacturers, universities, and public laboratories can present an EU-wide market consultation and put at least three R&D providers into competition. Scientific and technical excellence, degree of innovation, and consortium structure will be evaluated by independent experts based on clear assessment criteria. Funded projects contribute to the development of a de- and re-manufacturing industry in which product functions are preserved, refurbished, or upgraded. Dissemination and exploitation of results will be described in a business case and exploitation plan. Through the integration of Safe and Sustainable by Design and cooperation with the Joint Research Centre, the industrial transformation in Europe is to be advanced, supporting the achievement of climate protection goals and resource efficiency.
