Description

The Falling Walls Global Call for Science Breakthroughs is an international competition running from February 2 to April 15, 2026, aimed at identifying and honoring the most innovative scientific breakthroughs of the year. Individuals, companies, educational and research institutions, as well as non-profit and public organizations from all disciplines – ranging from Life Sciences to Physical Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Social Sciences & Humanities, to Art & Science, Science Engagement, Science Start-ups, and the Women’s Impact Award – may apply or nominate projects worldwide. The prerequisite is that the submitted project has not yet been presented on the Falling Walls stage, applicants are at least 18 years old, and submissions are made in English via the online platform. Applications must include a research summary, a detailed project description, a curriculum vitae, and consent to the usage rights.

The selection of finalists is based on the degree of innovation, relevance to global challenges, as well as the interdisciplinary and original approach. Selected projects gain international visibility and receive the opportunity to present their research findings at the Falling Walls Science Summit 2026 in Berlin before an international expert audience. Nominating institutions receive free summit tickets in the event of their finalist’s participation. Falling Walls Foundation gGmbH ensures that all submitted documents are handled in accordance with applicable data protection regulations. Finalists will be notified after the application deadline; all jury decisions are final and not subject to appeal. The interdisciplinary network surrounding Falling Walls promotes exchange between science, politics, business, and society and contributes to addressing pressing global issues.
