Description
The Family Time Bonus is a nationwide funding measure in Austria that financially supports employed fathers after the birth of their child. As a time-limited grant, a daily allowance is provided if employment is interrupted for exactly 28, 29, 30, or 31 days. Applications can be submitted continuously but must be made no later than 121 days after the child's date of birth. Since its launch in March 2017, this benefit has offered a sustainable paternity benefit in the social sector as well as in labor & social affairs to strengthen early family time.
The central funding objective is the compatibility of family and career by enabling actual family time immediately after birth. Eligible are employed fathers who are entitled to family allowance for the child, have their main residence together with the mother and child in Austria, and are registered in a household with the same primary residence. Further funding requirements include the formal utilization of family time and fulfillment of the employment condition. No processing fees are incurred, and the funding is valid indefinitely, provided the application deadline is met. For preparation, it is advisable to consult the application form of the Federal Chancellery (Family and Youth Section), which lists all required documents and the current daily amount.
