Financial Support of the Austrian National Union of Students

The Austrian Students' Union benefits from an annual direct funding amounting to a total of 1.1 million euros to secure central tasks and structures of a legally established student representation across the Austrian higher education sector. Public institutions are favored and receive financial resources to cover administrative expenses, to strengthen the social sector based on needs, as well as to ensure canteen subsidies and payments to the supervisory commission. The funding prerequisite is based on the legal regulation in the Students' Union Act, whereby the support is provided continuously and without time limitation.

This funding not only maintains administrative structures but also supports social policy services for students nationwide. The budget enables reliable planning of ongoing operations and contributes to the realization of a nationally coordinated, internationally competitive higher education and research area. The funds are granted as a non-repayable subsidy, allowing student representation and administration sufficient scope for innovative educational and social projects. The goal is to secure the operational capacity of the student representation in the long term and thereby contribute to a strong, inclusive higher education culture in Austria.
