Description

In the state of Salzburg, there is an opportunity to receive a premium of €25 per submitted fox for the monitoring and containment of rabies. This funding is aimed at all privately and publicly organized finders or hunters who submit deceased or hunted foxes to their responsible municipality for examination. The goal is the early detection of potential rabies cases in the local wildlife population in order to promptly initiate appropriate countermeasures and contain the spread. The costs of the examination are covered by the federal government, while the state of Salzburg fully assumes the payment of the premium. Applications can be submitted at any time, as there are no deadlines and continuous funding availability is ensured.

The application requires the submission of the official rabies examination report, supplemented by the address and bank details of the finder or hunter. Submission is made through the municipal authority, which also records the details of the submitting person on the examination request form. After completion of the laboratory examination, the commissioned institute forwards the results together with the fully completed application to the State Veterinary Directorate. The premium payment is made directly to the eligible person as soon as all documentation is available. This initiative makes a valuable contribution to health and disease control in the state and supports cooperation between hunters, municipalities, and veterinary authorities.
