Funding Contribution for the Museums of the City of Vienna

The City of Vienna provides a continuous funding contribution to the non-profit public museums of the City of Vienna in accordance with § 30 of the Vienna Museums Act (Wr. MuG). The aim of this support is to strengthen the cultural-political and scientific mission of the museums and thereby ensure the long-term preservation of high-quality exhibition and educational work. A prerequisite for funding is the conclusion of a funding agreement with a minimum term of five years, which guarantees reliable cooperation between City of Vienna Culture (Municipal Department 7) and the museums. The grants are awarded as subsidies and support all aspects of museum education, scientific, and cultural offerings without any time limitation.

This measure is exclusively aimed at public, non-profit museums in Vienna and is available without an upper limit during the application period starting January 16, 2024. It falls within the thematic funding areas of Culture as well as Culture & Media and allows institutions to plan long-term and implement exhibitions, research projects, and mediation programs sustainably. The guaranteed term of at least five years secures the strategic development of collection presentations, scientific projects, and cultural events. The administration of the funding is the responsibility of City of Vienna Culture, which, as the funding body, creates reliable framework conditions to support Viennese museums in their central societal role.
