Description

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Ministry for Climate Protection, Agriculture, Rural Areas and Environment promotes investments to strengthen economically, socially, and ecologically sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, and fishery industries with funds from the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF). Applicants with an operational or business location in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, including companies of any legal form, private individuals (especially fishers), public and research institutions, as well as recognized producer organizations of fisheries, have been able to apply for grants since 05.12.2023. The funding program supports the implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy, protects aquatic biodiversity, and advances local development strategies in coastal, island, and inland areas. The application deadline is 31.03.2029.

Funded measures include, among others, productive investments and modernizations of aquaculture facilities, actions to improve environmental impact and animal health, as well as processing, storage, and marketing measures. Investments in energy efficiency and renewable energies, planning costs (up to 15% of expenditures), desludging of existing fish ponds, and income diversification are also eligible for funding. The funding rate is up to 49% of eligible expenses, with a maximum of €3.38 million. Funding requirements include proper business management, at least 20% equity share, proof of fisheries qualification or corresponding consultancy contracts, and, where applicable, auditor confirmations and statements from the State Research Institute. For investments above certain thresholds, additional expert reports and statements are required. Application documents include the investment in aquaculture application form, the aquaculture indicators annex, the SME declaration, a business plan for initial investments, and, if applicable, a feasibility study and auditor confirmation. Evaluation criteria include economic efficiency, environmental compatibility, contribution to biodiversity, as well as animal health and welfare. Projects may not commence before approval.
