Description
Within the framework of the ERDF funding period 2021–2027, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate provides an innovative grant program that supports projects aimed at strengthening research, technological development, and innovation. The funding program is part of the regional innovation strategy (RIS3.RP) and is financed by ERDF funds to promote modern technology solutions, the expansion of research infrastructures, and the networking of science and industry. Applications for projects in the fields of research & innovation, infrastructure, and urban development can be submitted electronically via the ERDF customer portal of the Investment and Structural Bank Rhineland-Palatinate.
The grant program is aimed at educational institutions, non-profit as well as public entities that wish to implement innovative projects in the region. Funding is provided particularly for investments in tangible and intangible assets, material, supplies and travel expenses, external services, as well as direct personnel costs. The enhancement of application-oriented research and development infrastructures, the establishment of technology-oriented competence fields and cluster structures, as well as knowledge transfer are central focuses. The funding rate varies between 40% and 60% of eligible expenses, whereby specific conditions, such as the implementation of the project in Rhineland-Palatinate and compliance with RIS3.RP, must be strictly observed.
Project evaluation is conducted based on clearly defined criteria, including scientific quality, degree of innovation, and strategic relevance for regional technological developments. Through targeted support of cooperation between universities, research institutions, and companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), platforms for exchange between research and practice are created. Furthermore, the initiative contributes to establishing forward-looking technologies in the region, thereby sustainably supporting economic growth. The program thus offers a diverse funding opportunity that contributes both to strengthening the regional innovation landscape and to the sustainable development of infrastructure projects.
