Lausitz Award of the Lausitz Brown Coal Foundation

The Lausitz Brown Coal Foundation awards the Lausitz Award to outstanding non-profit initiatives in Brandenburg and Saxony that offer children and young people creative and forward-looking educational and employment opportunities. A total of €22,000 in prize money will be available in 2025 to recognize projects in the fields of technology, environment, crafts, culture, as well as energy efficiency and climate protection. A prerequisite for funding is a location in the Lausitz region and a clear focus on sustainable and creative formats for young people; families and interested citizens may also be involved. The jury particularly evaluates the innovativeness of the offerings, their alignment with future professional fields, and the integration of ecological sustainability.

Awarded projects may include, for example, intergenerational learning centers for STEM and crafts or nature trails with interactive knowledge stations that raise environmental awareness through playful means. Cultural formats that foster identity and promote artistic development are also honored. The prize money is awarded between €1,000 and €10,000 depending on ranking and concept, enabling both smaller initiatives and extensive future projects to benefit. Through this funding, the awarded organizations make a significant contribution to profiling Lausitz as an attractive educational region and to sustainably shaping the structural transformation on site.
