Description
The funding program “Assisted Reproduction” supports involuntarily childless couples residing in Berlin through a non-repayable grant for reproductive medical treatments. Eligible applicants are heterosexual or female same-sex married couples and couples in a permanent partnership, provided there is a medically certified IVF or ICSI indication for the second or third treatment cycle (§ 27a SGB V) and the treatment has not yet commenced. Only measures carried out in authorized practices or clinics in Berlin are funded. The grant covers 50% of the remaining personal contribution per cycle – up to a maximum of €800 for IVF and €900 for ICSI. The first treatment cycle, spontaneous or hormonally stimulated inseminations, as well as intratubal gamete transfer without approval, are not eligible for funding.
Applications must be submitted before the start of each cycle to the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (LaGeSo). A preliminary approval notice must be obtained before redeeming the first prescription. A final payment application must be submitted within two months after completion of the treatment. Required documents for the application include: marriage certificate or registered partnership certificate, registration certificates, copies of IDs, approved treatment plan from the health insurance, medical certificate from the fertility clinic, cost estimate (if necessary), as well as proof of cost reimbursement or rejection by insurance/aid. No new or follow-up applications are possible for the year 2025; funding availability for 2026 is still uncertain.
