Funding Programs for the Living Environment Housing

The Aktion Mensch Foundation offers a nationwide grant program, "Living Environment Housing," providing subsidies for non-profit organizations, public institutions, and companies. The objective is to create inclusive and barrier-free housing options for people with disabilities as well as for individuals facing particular social challenges. Projects with 2 to 8 residents are designed and implemented participatively, with the target group actively involved in planning and decision-making processes. Compliance with accessibility standards according to DIN 18040-2 is a prerequisite. With funding rates ranging from 50% to 90%, the foundation supports measures that strengthen independent living, enabling both social participation and local networking. Applications can be submitted continuously, ensuring needs-based implementation within a project duration of up to 36 months.

Eligible expenses include, among others, personnel and freelance costs, the purchase, construction, conversion, and furnishing of real estate, including smart living systems. Not funded are single housing units without connection to other housing options, personnel costs for assistance and care staff, as well as projects without active involvement of the target group or those employing the ABA method. The maximum funding amount is €380,000, with proof of own funds required at 10% (project funding) or 20% (investment funding). Evaluation criteria include the degree of innovation, inclusion and participation concept, and verified accessibility.
