Grant criteria
Funding objective
The aim of the funding is the identification and investigation of sites suspected of contamination as well as the elimination of hazards and water pollution caused by contaminated sites. The grants are intended to remediate contaminated sites and enable the reuse of the affected areas.

Description
Contaminated Sites Funding Guideline supports impact-oriented measures in Thuringia for the identification, investigation, and remediation of potentially contaminated sites. Entities from the public and private sectors – including public law corporations, private law legal entities, as well as natural persons – can apply for grants in the fields of environmental and nature conservation, infrastructure, energy efficiency & climate protection, and urban development. The goal is to eliminate hazards to humans and the environment arising from contaminated sites, reduce water pollution, and enable the reuse of formerly contaminated areas. The funding rate ranges between 90 and 100 percent of eligible expenses depending on the measure, allowing for comprehensive remediation with maximum cost coverage.
Funding is provided, among other things, for exploration and investigation projects, remediation investigations including planning services, structural remediation investments including demolition and innovative pollutant reduction methods, as well as accompanying monitoring and self-monitoring. Expenses for land acquisition, financing ancillary costs, administration, insurance, or deductible VAT, as well as measures on privileged sites, are not eligible for funding. Prerequisites include implementation of the project in Thuringia, securing overall financing, proper project execution, and – for remediation projects – submission of a remediation concept along with an appraisal of value enhancement. Applications must be submitted via the funding portal of the Thuringian Development Bank and must be filed before the project start. The funding window extends from 01.01.2025 to 31.12.2027; required documents include the application form, a project description with schedule, a cost and financing plan, and, if applicable, concepts and appraisals related to remediation.
