Description
Energy and Climate Funding Guideline – Adaptation to the Consequences of Climate Change represents a significant financial support in Saxony, available to all stakeholders – from municipal authorities through companies and SMEs to non-profit organizations, associations, cooperatives, and private individuals – for the implementation of climate protection-related measures. The program offers grants covering 75 to 80 percent of eligible expenses, thereby supporting both capital-intensive measures such as structural adaptations, heat protection, and rainwater retention, as well as non-investive approaches, for example the development of climate adaptation concepts and integrated climate management. This funding is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Just Transition Fund (JTF), creating a foundation for innovative projects in the areas of energy transition and climate adaptation.
The funding program is an integral part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at promoting sustainable and climate-sensitive infrastructure in Saxony. It recognizes the urgency of supporting both physical structural measures and planning-conceptual approaches to strengthen climate resilience. Special attention is given to projects that include nature-based solutions or go beyond the current state of the art to achieve added value compared to isolated individual measures. At the same time, the funding guideline addresses the expansion of digital, smart technologies within the framework of Smart Cities and regions, ensuring a future-proof connection between urban development, environmental protection, and energy efficiency.
Applications are submitted digitally via the online funding portal of the Saxon Development Bank – Förderbank (SAB). Interested applicants submit a legally binding signed application along with all required documents, making the entire process transparent and user-friendly. In addition to financial grants, the initiative places great emphasis on targeted project implementation that generates long-term positive effects for local infrastructure, environmental protection, and urban development. Overall, this funding guideline underscores the Free State of Saxony’s commitment to realizing innovative projects for adapting to the impacts of climate change and thus making a sustainable contribution to a climate-neutral economy.
