Description
The funding guideline "Energy and Climate – Module I Application-Oriented Energy and Climate Research" of the Free State of Saxony supports universities, non-university and non-profit research institutions, as well as the Saxony Vocational Academy in transfer-oriented projects in the fields of energy, climate, and circular economy. Funded are application-oriented, pre-competitive research projects that go beyond the current state of technology or science and make a substantial contribution to the climate policy objectives of the Free State. In particular, projects for the development and demonstration of energy efficiency and storage technologies, renewable energies, sector coupling, hydrogen-based economy, as well as the digitization and intelligent networking of energy systems and eco-innovations in the field of circular economy are eligible for funding. The grant covers up to 100% of recognized expenses, with a maximum funding amount of EUR 1,000,000 and a project duration of up to 48 months. The minimum funding amount is EUR 10,000. Since the funds are currently exhausted, new applications will only be possible again from January 1, 2025.
A prerequisite for a successful application is a conceptual project description including laboratory validation or demonstration under real operating conditions, as well as free support from the Energy Research Competence Center of the Saxon Energy Agency GmbH (SAENA). Eligible expenses include project-specific equipment and supplies, rent or leasing, external services, personnel costs for researchers and technical staff, registrations and acquisition of intellectual property rights, as well as other project-related operating expenses including a flat rate for indirect costs. Construction costs, VAT with input tax deduction, contract research for companies, and projects outside the funding limits of EUR 10,000 to EUR 1,000,000 are not eligible for funding. Applications are to be submitted via the online funding portal of the Saxon Development Bank – Förderbank – (SAB) in compliance with the specified forms and information sheets.
