Description

The German World Heritage Foundation offers non-profit organizations and public institutions within the EU a continuously available grant opportunity for the preservation of endangered UNESCO World Heritage sites outside Germany. Funding is provided for construction and monument conservation projects as well as measures in the fields of culture, environmental and nature conservation, energy efficiency, infrastructure, and rural development. In addition to financial support, the Foundation connects experts in restoration, management planning, and consulting to strengthen the lacking professional capacities on site. Applications can be submitted at any time, provided that a cultural or natural heritage worthy of preservation exists without sufficient know-how and limited financial resources.


This funding is particularly interesting for operators and responsible parties of World Heritage sites who wish to support a nomination or implement urgent protection measures. Since the Foundation’s inception, 22 projects have been realized worldwide in 16 countries – ranging from the restoration of historic musical instruments to the development of action plans for national parks and monuments. The variety of eligible activities spans from development cooperation through agriculture and urban planning to energy efficiency and climate protection measures. Interested professionals and public cultural or nature conservation institutions have uncomplicated access to funding and expertise to preserve cultural and natural heritage for future generations.
