Description
The Elsa Krauschitz Foundation supports private and institutional engagement in the northern German region for the barrier-free new construction and renovation of living spaces as well as associated ancillary areas such as access routes or communal rooms. Funding is provided to individuals with recognized physical disabilities as well as to non-profit organizations and public institutions in Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Schleswig-Holstein. The foundation grants one-time subsidies of up to €10,000 and requires that the renovation has not yet begun at the time of application and that all official permits are in place. A severe disability ID card, land register excerpt or rental agreement with landlord consent, proof of income and assets, as well as a detailed project description with construction plans and a financing plan form the basis for application review. Applications can be submitted year-round; ongoing operational costs are not permanently funded.
The goal is to enable self-determined living despite physical limitations. Eligible expenses include construction and ancillary building costs as well as planning services by architects and specialist planners. Vehicle modifications, therapies, or personnel and material costs of ongoing operations are not subsidized. Upon a positive decision and submission of all proof of use, payment is made. The board of trustees makes the funding decision at the foundation’s discretion, taking into account the available budgetary resources. Through this support, a barrier-free environment is to be created for those affected, sustainably improving mobility and privacy in everyday life.
