Promotion of Energy Efficiency and CO2 Reduction in Agriculture and Horticulture

The Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Homeland (BMLEH) supports nationwide investments aimed at increasing energy efficiency and reducing CO₂ emissions in agricultural and horticultural enterprises. Funding is provided for energy-efficient machinery, equipment, and building technology, as well as insulation measures on buildings and heat recovery and thermal protection systems. Participating enterprises must be based in Germany, operate in the agricultural or horticultural sector, and demonstrate ownership or usage rights for the planned investment objects. The program sponsor, the Agency for Renewable Resources (FNR), assists with the application process and support, with a funding rate of up to 45% of eligible expenses. Applications can be submitted continuously and include planning and engineering services, investment costs for machinery and equipment, as well as costs for windows and insulation. Evaluation is based on the expected CO₂ savings potential, economic viability, and technical feasibility of the measure.

The funding is aimed at agricultural and horticultural enterprises of all sizes that wish to implement sustainable production processes. In addition to the completed application form, submission requires a project description with a technical concept, a detailed cost and financing plan, as well as information on the size of the enterprise and annual production. Ongoing operating costs, retroactive expenses incurred before approval, and already completed projects are excluded from funding. Through the targeted use of modern technology and optimized building technology, the program not only contributes to climate protection but also strengthens the competitiveness and future viability of the enterprises. The Agency for Renewable Resources (FNR) supports interested enterprises in all phases, thereby promoting the transition to climate-neutral agriculture.
