Description
The City of Vienna – Environmental Protection (MA 22) grants a subsidy of €200 per m² for the unsealing and greening of municipal areas to reduce the degree of sealing and increase urban biodiversity. Eligible applicants include private individuals, companies, and non-profit organizations with properties in Vienna. Submissions are possible from 01.10.2024 until the budget is exhausted. Applicants must submit an online application form, the funding contract, a consent form for photo rights, a cost estimate, photos prior to greening, and a current land register excerpt. The focus is on environmental and nature conservation, climate protection, urban development, and energy efficiency, as well as infrastructure measures that contribute to climate change adaptation and quality of life improvement.
A prerequisite is that the sealed area has existed for at least 15 years and has not received funding during this period. The measure must be maintained for at least 15 years; otherwise, restoration at the applicant’s own expense is required. Non-eligible costs include garden tools, labor for self-performed work, plant troughs under 300 L, paved paths, terraces, and furnishings. Demolition and disposal work, soil replacement, peat-free substrate, perennial plants, permeable ground coverings (e.g., grass grids), edging, irrigation systems, and cisterns are considered eligible expenses. The maximum funding amount is €10,000 and offers an attractive opportunity to transform urban spaces into green oases together with experts, thereby making an active contribution to climate protection and urban renewal.
