Funding for the Preservation of Drainage Systems

The funding for the maintenance of drainage systems in Styria supports agricultural enterprises and drainage cooperatives in properly maintaining existing drainage systems and land improvement measures in rural areas. The goal is to secure the valuable infrastructure investments, which were established with state funding, in a functional condition over the long term. With a continuous application possibility, the program supports repair and maintenance costs for ditches, pipelines, and associated land improvement facilities to prevent soil erosion, ensure water retention, and sustainably strengthen agricultural potential. The administration is handled by the Office of the Styrian State Government, Department 14 Water Management, Resources and Sustainability, which ensures a transparent process through professional advice and review procedures.

Up to 40% of the recognized maintenance costs are funded, with financial support limited to those measures deemed urgently necessary according to planning documents. Eligible for funding are registered companies and cooperatives that are members of a drainage cooperative and operate in the rural areas of Styria. Applications can be submitted at any time with a complete funding request and the required planning documents. Upon positive review, payment is made as a direct grant. This initiative thus makes a significant contribution to efficient water management and climate protection in Styria’s agricultural landscape.
