Description
With the funding program "Research and Teaching in the Field of Social Policy", the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) supports nationwide interdisciplinary research initiatives, doctoral projects, and endowed professorships. Grants are awarded to projects from economics and law, sociology, social ethics, as well as political and historical sciences to examine the peculiarities, current challenges, and adaptation processes of the German welfare state. The focus is on comparisons with international social security systems, the effects of social and labor market policy reforms, and the implications for labor market and training systems in a changing society. Applicants from universities, research institutions, independent and public educational providers, associations, as well as doctoral candidates benefit from funding that sustainably strengthens research & innovation.
Funding is provided for a period of up to 36 months in the form of grants for personnel costs, a flat-rate research allowance, and material resources. Doctoral projects can be supported with up to EUR 1,150 per month plus a research cost allowance of up to EUR 100 per month. For endowed professorships, annual maximum amounts of up to EUR 300,000 over five years are possible. Essential requirements include the designation of a qualified project leader, a detailed financing plan, and for collaborative projects, a joint project outline and written cooperation agreement. Eligible to apply are legal entities under public and private law for projects and endowed professorships, as well as natural persons for doctoral projects; applicants undergoing insolvency or enforcement proceedings are excluded from funding. After the publication of the funding announcement, the program allows for ongoing application submissions, while administrative processing is handled by the German Pension Insurance Knappschaft-Bahn-See.
