Funding of the Hans and Änne Jahns Foundation (school tutoring, further education & participation)

The Hans and Änne Jahns Foundation is committed in Bremen and the surrounding area to socially disadvantaged children, adolescents, and young adults whose livelihood is secured through transfer payments such as citizen’s income or whose income falls below the poverty risk threshold. Through an unlimited-time grant, expenses for academic tutoring and vocational training are covered. The foundation cooperates with recognized tutoring institutes to design individualized learning programs – for example, for dyscalculia or during school holidays. Additionally, the foundation supports measures to strengthen social skills, such as memberships in sports clubs as well as swimming, dance, and music lessons. The selection of measures is based on criteria such as the degree of social disadvantage and the contribution to academic and personal development.

Priority is given to families with proof of the Bremen Pass or a self-disclosure of income. Applications can be submitted continuously; the application must include a copy of the transfer payment certificate, the self-disclosure, and the informal application according to the funding guidelines. The foundation settles accounts exclusively directly with the service providers and does not pay applicants or their legal guardians. The goal is to enable promotion to a higher grade level or transition to a further educational pathway and to secure long-term participation in social life. The decision on approval is made based on the funding guidelines and a priority list specifically tailored to the needs of socially disadvantaged young people.
