Support of the Johannes Brahms Foundation

Since 1921, the Johannes Brahms Foundation has supported particularly talented musicians and music students with a close connection to Hamburg. As a private sponsor, it offers continuous support in the form of sponsorship to enable musical development regardless of financial barriers. Beneficiaries are highly gifted pupils and students of the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre who can demonstrate a close personal connection to the Hanseatic city. Over the decades, the foundation has accompanied numerous young talents on their path and enabled the acquisition of equipment and participation in renowned educational events through concrete financial grants. The goal is to provide young artists with access to the best educational resources and to sustainably strengthen their career opportunities.

Funding is provided, among other things, for the purchase of instruments, study and living expenses, as well as participation fees for competitions and masterclasses. In addition, travel expenses for international exchange programs or concert projects can be covered. Applications are accepted year-round; applications can be submitted at any time. Selection is based on artistic suitability, proven connection to Hamburg, and enrollment at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre. By providing funding, the foundation makes a significant contribution to enabling young musicians to fully develop their artistic abilities—regardless of financial means.
