Description
The Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony supports regionally significant art and cultural projects in Saxony through its project funding program, which impresses with outstanding quality and a clear thematic profile. Eligible for funding are private individuals, companies, non-profit organizations, as well as public institutions with residence or headquarters in the Free State of Saxony. Applications can be submitted twice a year – by September 1 for projects in the first half of the year and by March 1 for projects in the second half – for categories such as visual and performing arts, music, film, literature, socio-culture, industrial culture, or interdisciplinary projects. Decisions are made by independent expert committees based on the criteria of outstanding quality, clear thematic profile, and supraregional impact. With an annual funding volume of approximately 3.6 million euros, this program represents the largest funding area of the foundation.
Up to 90% of eligible expenses are funded, usually 50% of the total costs; exceptions apply for composition commissions, documentary short films, emerging artist projects, and industrial culture. Eligible expenses include material and fee costs, travel and accommodation expenses, insurance, fees (GEMA/KSK), as well as acquisitions and production of objects. Investment measures, predominantly commercial projects, benefit events, traditional customs preservation, and projects that have already been rejected are not subsidized. Applicants must submit a project description (3–5 pages), a presentation of the applicants, information on key participants, and – if applicable – statutes and proof of non-profit status. The project must not have commenced at the time of application. A clearly structured financing plan with at least 5% own funds is mandatory, as is a thorough proof of expenditure after project completion.
