Description

The state of Schleswig-Holstein provides grants within the framework of its infrastructure and regional development funding to ensure the navigability of commercial ports, operationally necessary piers, and marinas along the North Sea coast and in tide-influenced tributaries. The objective is the removal of sediment deposits in the Wadden Sea, including the Lower Elbe and its tributaries (Stör, Wilsterau, Krückau, Pinnau), so that shipping and water sports can proceed smoothly alike. Eligible applicants are operators of commercial ports and operationally necessary piers as well as owners of marinas located in Schleswig-Holstein (exception: marina operators based outside the state, provided the marina is located within the state). The responsible authority for approval is the State Agency for Coastal Protection, National Park and Marine Conservation Schleswig-Holstein (LKN.SH).

Funded measures include dredging with transport to approved disposal sites, raking, and processes using water injections. Up to 5.3 million euros are available as subsidies for implementation in 2024. For an application, complete documentation regarding the location and scope of the planned measures as well as the completed standard application form of LKN.SH must be submitted. The deadline for submission to the approval authority is July 31, 2026. Through this funding, the state makes an important contribution to the preservation of maritime infrastructure and the strengthening of regional economic structures along the North Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein.
