Description

The Foundation for Tolerance and International Understanding supports innovative projects dedicated to strengthening social cohesion and promoting international understanding. The grant is aimed at non-profit organizations in the regions of Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. The focus is on combating right-wing extremism, intolerance, and xenophobia—issues that are currently particularly relevant in Germany. The funding program is intended to support cultural, sporting, educational projects as well as youth exchange initiatives that provide sustainable impulses for the prevention of extremism. Great importance is placed on the innovative nature of the projects, so that forward-looking approaches are promoted.

Funding is provided in the form of a grant, with eligible expenses including, among others, fees, personnel costs, and material costs. Applicants must ensure they have sufficient personnel, financial, and material resources to successfully implement the project. In addition to proof of non-profit status—or the statutes in the case of associations—a detailed project description must be submitted. Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis; however, an early application at least two to three months before the project start is required to ensure smooth coordination and timely implementation of the measures. A necessary own contribution or an additional funding source constitutes an essential prerequisite.

The funding objective clearly lies in supporting projects that actively contribute to combating extremism and strengthening an open, tolerant society. Particularly beneficial is the focus on projects targeting children and youth and highlighting their engagement in the fields of culture, education, sports, or international exchange. Furthermore, the Foundation places great value on the sustainable impact of the supported measures to achieve long-term change in societal discourse. This funding program provides financial support enabling non-profit organizations to realize future-oriented and effective projects that contribute to the promotion of international understanding.
