Description
The funding provided by the Schleswig-Holstein Nature Conservation Foundation offers unique financial support for projects in the field of Biological Climate Protection. This measure is aimed at non-profit organizations and public institutions that wish to implement sustainable initiatives for the renaturation of peatlands, the establishment of CO2 storage forests, and the improvement of near-natural habitats. The funding program aims to preserve and strengthen biodiversity in Schleswig-Holstein by supporting the restoration and long-term protection of native animal and plant species. Special emphasis is placed on the creation of green infrastructure, which sustainably enhances the ecological value of the region.
Eligible costs include construction and investment expenses, fees, and material costs, while ongoing costs after project completion and capital procurement costs are excluded. Grants are applied for in the form of earmarked subsidies granted as co-financing. Applications must include a detailed project description, a schedule, a cost and financing plan, as well as information about cooperation partners. It is of central importance that the applicant and the involved partners possess the necessary prerequisites and capabilities to carry out the measures. Funding is continuously available, allowing projects to be supported financially on an ongoing and sustainable basis.
The Foundation places particular emphasis on projects that are committed to environmental protection, climate protection, and the improvement of natural habitats in a sustainable manner. This includes, among other things, measures for the rewetting of peatlands and the transformation of forests on peat soils to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote biodiversity. In addition to a detailed project description, all required permits and approvals must be submitted with the application. The decision-making process is conducted by the Foundation’s board, which determines the eligibility of projects for funding through a comprehensive review. This funding makes an important contribution to strengthening nature conservation in Schleswig-Holstein, which, beyond financial support, also contributes to the visibility and promotion of innovative environmental protection projects.
