Description

The funding provided by the Weisbachhaus Freiberg Foundation is aimed at outstanding students and academic institutions in the German-speaking region, with a special focus on the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Through ongoing grants, both excellent academic achievements and innovative research and pilot projects are supported. In addition, a portion of the funds is allocated to the permanent preservation of the listed Weisbachhaus in Freiberg, a historic educational and event venue. With its broad range of support—from education and science to culture and sports, as well as infrastructure and urban development—the foundation contributes to maintaining student traditions and strengthening democratic governance. Eligibility for application requires enrollment or affiliation with a scientific university in the German-speaking region, as well as proof of outstanding academic performance or a convincing project idea in line with the foundation’s purpose.

The selection is based on clearly defined criteria: academic excellence and project orientation aligned with the foundation’s purpose form the basis for funding. In addition to scholarships for students, research work is supported both ideationally and financially, scientific documentation is accompanied, and pilot projects are promoted. Furthermore, the foundation supports cultural education, student songs, and physical fitness through sports initiatives. Another focus lies on preserving local heritage in the Ore Mountains mining tradition as well as fostering networking between universities, students, and institutions domestically and abroad. Since applications can be submitted at any time, potential applicants have the opportunity to implement projects flexibly and promptly and to benefit from the foundation’s comprehensive expertise.
