Description

The Strunden-Parrot Foundation (SPS) was established in 1998 as a fiduciary, non-profit entity within the Zoological Society for Species and Population Conservation (ZGAP) and has since been dedicated to the protection of globally endangered parrot species. Targeted grants for conservation measures, research projects, and species protection activities are provided from the interest income and annually one-fifth of the original foundation capital. Thanks to the voluntary commitment of the foundation board, no personnel costs arise, so all funds flow directly into conservation programs. Previously funded initiatives range from monitoring rare cockatoo populations in Southeast Asia to reintroduction projects for rare Amazona species in Brazil.

Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations and NGOs operating nationwide that engage in projects aimed at protecting endangered parrot species. The prerequisite is that the project clearly serves the conservation of endangered species and is supported by a non-profit institution. Decisions on funding applications are made by a five-member foundation board based on species protection relevance, threat status of the target species, and sustainability of the conservation measures. Applications can be submitted at any time, facilitating continuous project planning. This funding opportunity enables committed organizations to finance conservation measures on a national level and contribute to the long-term preservation of endangered parrots.
