Description

The funding program “Promotion of sustainable, multimodal mobility in cities and their commuter areas” supports the development of modern transport concepts in Saxony-Anhalt. Through a grant, investment measures are financed that contribute to sustainably improving urban infrastructure for cycling and pedestrian traffic and removing barriers. Funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) are incorporated to promote the transition to a CO₂-neutral economy. The guideline is aimed at public institutions, municipalities, companies, as well as associations and clubs that wish to implement innovative and practical solutions in the areas of public transport, emission-free urban logistics, and multimodal transport hubs.

The program sets various funding priorities. Investment measures include, for example, the new construction and expansion of cycling facilities and combined cycling and pedestrian paths, including safety-enhancing structural measures such as refuge islands, crossing aids, as well as improved signage and lighting. Furthermore, projects are supported that facilitate the connection of active modes of transport to public local transport by designing and implementing multimodal hubs with digital solutions. The funding also covers measures for the development of emission-free urban logistics and the targeted use of environmentally friendly small vehicles for the last mile. In addition, the program supports the preparation and updating of mobility plans and technical concepts that serve as strategic guidelines for sustainable mobility development.

The grant is provided as a subsidy, whereby municipalities and associations of local authorities can receive a funding share of up to 90 percent, while other applicants can be subsidized up to 60 percent of eligible expenses. Prerequisites include the existence of a sustainable urban mobility plan or an equivalent planning concept, ensuring the overall financing of the project, and obtaining all necessary official approvals. The funding places particular emphasis on the application of recognized technical standards and the consideration of accessibility—factors that contribute to the comprehensive design of a forward-looking, multimodal transport infrastructure. With regular application deadlines, the program offers an ongoing opportunity for the implementation of innovative mobility solutions and thus actively supports the transition towards environmentally friendly, connected urban mobility in Saxony-Anhalt.
