Description

The funding program to support sustainable, innovative, and future-proof local public transport in Thuringia offers a significant opportunity to align public transport (ÖPNV) with low-emission technologies for the future. By providing grants covering between 60% and 70% of eligible expenses depending on the measure, projects in various areas are supported: from feasibility studies and mobility concepts to the acquisition and conversion of vehicles as well as the development of modern refueling and charging infrastructure. Public institutions, transport companies, and enterprises operating within the framework of public services can participate in the funding, provided they demonstrate a coherent financing concept and compliance with all relevant criteria.

The program focuses on reducing climate-damaging emissions, decreasing air pollutants, and mitigating noise emissions, thereby making an effective contribution to environmental and climate protection. The use of renewable energies for the infrastructures must be demonstrated, while ensuring the economic viability of the project. Additionally, innovative model projects testing alternative technical propulsion solutions in road and rail transport are also supported. The program places great emphasis on anchoring all projects within the framework of sustainable mobility development.

The funding is specifically aimed at transport companies and public authorities seeking to sustainably modernize their fleets and implement innovative concepts for public transport. Projects can be initiated from December 12, 2024, with application deadlines and implementation periods designed so that measures can be fully realized by the end of 2029 at the latest. The comprehensive guidelines, implementation regulations, and annexes provide detailed guidance to meet all requirements. This funding program makes a substantial contribution to the mobility transition in Thuringia – a step towards more environmentally friendly, efficient, and future-oriented local transport planning.
