Funding objective
Two key objectives of the Brandenburg Energy Strategy 2040 are increasing energy efficiency in companies and further expanding the use of renewable energies. To this end, three ERDF-funded programs are offered: Energy Efficiency Brandenburg, Renewable Energies Brandenburg, and Hydrogen Storage Brandenburg, which support investment measures in energy-efficient processes, systems for the generation and use of renewable energies, and hydrogen or storage systems.

Description
The funding program of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Protection of Brandenburg supports companies and public institutions in Brandenburg with investments in energy efficiency, renewable energies, as well as hydrogen and storage systems. Three ERDF-funded programs are supported: Energy Efficiency Brandenburg for optimizing industrial and commercial processes, Renewable Energies Brandenburg for photovoltaic, hydropower, and geothermal plants, and Hydrogen Storage Brandenburg for the production, distribution, and storage of renewable hydrogen. These initiatives contribute to the Energy Strategy 2040, which aims to reduce final energy consumption and CO₂ emissions by at least 15% and requires an annual minimum CO₂ saving of 5 tons per project. Eligible for funding are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the commercial sector as well as—exceptionally—larger municipal utilities and supply companies according to the Energy Industry Act. Applications can be submitted continuously to the Investment Bank of the State of Brandenburg (ILB).
Investment measures must meet a minimum expenditure threshold of €200,000 (Renewable Energies, Hydrogen/Storage). For energy efficiency projects, an externally conducted energy audit according to DIN EN 16247 is required. Eligible expenses include the installation and modernization of energy-optimized systems, the construction of solar, water, and geothermal plants, as well as infrastructures for renewable hydrogen and intelligent storage systems. Exploration drilling for geothermal energy is not eligible for funding. Evaluation criteria include technology openness, contribution to the state strategy, and verifiable CO₂ savings. Application documents required are the energy audit, the expert recommendation, and the ILB application form. The grant contributes to increasing energy efficiency in the state and sustainably advancing the expansion of climate-friendly technologies.
