Description
The Remembrance and Peace Foundation offers national funding to support international projects in the areas of preservation of war gravesites, peace education through youth and school work, as well as development and maintenance of commemorative culture. The objective is to preserve collective war remembrance, strengthen democratic values, and promote reconciliation across borders. Innovative approaches that combine historical awareness with contemporary educational work and activate local or cross-border networks are supported. Funding is provided in the form of grants as partial or gap financing; full financing is excluded. A fundamental funding principle is also public impact, so that the results and successes can be communicated and transparently presented by the Foundation.
Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations, public institutions, and, in close cooperation with the German War Graves Commission, also private individuals. A prerequisite is project cooperation with the German War Graves Commission or the Remembrance and Peace Foundation, as well as assignment to one of the three defined funding areas according to § 2 Article 1 of the Foundation’s statutes. Applications may be submitted at any time and are not subject to deadlines. There is no legal entitlement to funding; rather, the Foundation decides on eligibility and the specific funding amount after thorough review. Interested project sponsors can find further information and details on the funding guidelines on the Foundation’s website.
