Description

The Helmuth von Glasenapp Foundation supports Indological projects throughout Germany through direct grants for printing costs of cultural-historical publications, travel scholarships, the organization of professional colloquia, as well as digital projects. The goal is to strengthen German India research by supporting scientifically relevant projects that are difficult to finance elsewhere. With a project duration of up to 36 months, the foundation particularly funds initiatives that make an independent contribution to the understanding of Indian cultural and intellectual history. The evaluation criteria include scientific relevance, personal involvement, and proof of the absence of other funding possibilities.

Eligible for funding are private individuals, higher education institutions, and non-profit organizations, including Indologists, religious studies scholars, as well as students and researchers with Indological focuses. The application requires a detailed project description, a comprehensive cost and financing plan, evidence of previously submitted funding requests, a curriculum vitae, and qualification documents such as publication lists or expert opinions. Applications can be submitted at any time; however, submission by mid-February of each fiscal year is recommended to ensure timely review. The foundation requests a declaration that no funding from other institutions is possible and ensures that approved funds are used within three years. This continuous funding instrument offers diverse opportunities to sustainably support innovative research and publication projects within the Indological scientific landscape.
