Description

The funding of innovative energy projects by the state of Hesse supports the development, testing, and demonstration of novel strategies, technologies, and processes in the fields of renewable energies, energy efficiency, energy storage, and grid integration. The goal is a greener, low-CO₂ transition to a climate-neutral economy and a resilient Europe. Development, pilot, and demonstration projects as well as feasibility studies are funded based on ERDF funds. Applications can be submitted year-round and are primarily reviewed by the technical department of the HA Hessen Agentur. Approval is granted as a non-repayable grant for eligible expenses within a digital procedure via the WIBank customer portal.

Eligible for funding are companies of all sizes, universities, research institutions, municipal authorities, associations, clubs, foundations, and cooperatives with headquarters or project locations in Hesse. Minimum expenditures amount to €100,000 for development and €400,000 for pilot/demonstration projects; eligible costs include, among others, personnel and material costs, overhead flat rates, and travel expenses. Funding rates range depending on project type and size class from 25% to 50%, and up to 90% in the non-commercial sector. The project duration is set at 24 months. Key evaluation criteria are the degree of innovation, greenhouse gas reduction potential, and transferability to comparable use cases. Technical preliminary consultation by the HA and a project outline facilitate the application process and increase the chances of success.
