Description

Funding for international research cooperation on global food security supports the establishment and maintenance of research consortia between German institutions and partner organizations in the Global South. The goal is to develop demand-oriented solutions along the agricultural and food value chain as well as to expand local capacities in Sub-Saharan Africa, South, and Southeast Asia. Eligible applicants include research institutes, universities, non-profit organizations, associations, foundations, cooperatives, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) based in Germany. The funding measure places particular emphasis on inter- and transdisciplinary approaches and cross-country knowledge exchange to realize sustainable production systems, optimized value chains, and improved food security on site.

As a grant, the measure covers up to 100% of eligible expenses. A prerequisite is the involvement of at least one German coordinator and at least one partner institution per consortium. Project funds must be applied for through a suitable German institution and coordinated in advance to ensure a balanced distribution of tasks among all partners. Applications are to be submitted punctually following a special announcement to the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. This funding strengthens long-term partnerships and sustainably expands scientific networks.
