Description
The funding program Support for Municipal Regional Transport Projects (Micro-Public Transport) in Burgenland is aimed at public institutions and seeks to sustainably optimize transport services through railway and motor vehicle lines operated by licensed companies, as well as demand-responsive operating models (such as call buses or dial-a-ride taxis). The focus is on measures that meaningfully complement the existing fixed-route transport offerings, are ecologically justifiable, and meet demonstrable demand. The initiative supports projects in the fields of infrastructure, regional development, urban planning, as well as agriculture and rural development, thereby contributing to strengthening dedicated mobility services in structurally weak regions.
Recipients of funding can be Burgenland municipalities, municipal associations, associations with municipal sponsorship, as well as legal entities with municipal participation, provided the project aligns with the state's objectives for public transport development and aims for the highest possible cost coverage ratio. Up to 35% of the verified operating deficits from the regional transport project are funded, depending on the demand category, but no more than €8,000 per year. A non-formal, at-any-time application must be submitted in writing and include a detailed project description with justification. Selection is based on criteria such as quality of transport service, cost coverage ratio, and ecological appropriateness. The funds are granted as a one-time subsidy and must be used according to principles of thriftiness, economy, and appropriateness.
