Funding of cooperative measures to improve climate protection and biodiversity on agricultural land

The funding of cooperative measures to improve climate protection and biodiversity on agriculturally used land in Brandenburg is aimed at agricultural cooperatives consisting of at least three individual farms with their own farm number and coordinated by qualified project management (such as nature conservation associations or landscape management organizations). The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance carbon sequestration, and halt and reverse the loss of biological diversity within the framework of a professionally coordinated concept. For this purpose, a maximum funding rate of 300 euros per hectare per year can be applied for. Both cooperative climate protection measures and biodiversity measures are supported, including selected agri-environmental measures within a spatially clearly defined project area. A prerequisite for a successful application is the timely submission of the technical concept by September 15, 2024, as well as approval by the responsible environmental protection authority. The project duration is 48 months, and the ELER application must be submitted by December 31, 2024.

Particularly, measures that go beyond legal minimum requirements are rewarded, such as adapted crop rotations, flowering strips, or peatland protection. Income losses and additional expenses, including transaction costs, are compensated. Applications are submitted through the agricultural offices of the districts and independent cities; applications must include all relevant documents such as the technical concept, ELER form, and proof of farm number. Funding is granted after project review and paid out as a 100% grant. With this program, the State of Brandenburg makes an important contribution to the implementation of EU strategies for climate change adaptation and the preservation of biodiversity on agricultural land.
