Funding Literature

The "Literature Promotion" program of the State of Vorarlberg strengthens the literary scene in the region through diverse grants and contributions. Authors and publishers can apply for printing subsidies to realize publications, while acquisitions of works support distribution. Work scholarships enable the completion of literary projects, and literary events such as readings, writing workshops, or literature festivals are supported, as are annual memberships of literary associations active in Vorarlberg. A connection to Vorarlberg, demonstrated by residence or long-term activity, is a prerequisite. Evaluation is based on literary quality, regional relevance, and the sustainability or impact of the project. Submissions are possible at any time and are reviewed quarterly by the Literature Art Commission.

Interested private individuals, companies, and non-profit organizations benefit from a straightforward application process, which requires, among other things, a completed application form, a detailed income-expenditure statement, if applicable a bank confirmation for funding amounts of 10,000 euros or more, as well as work samples in PDF, MP3, or DVD format. Eligible expenses include printing costs, publication acquisitions, scholarships, and event costs. The goal of the funding is the sustainable promotion of literary quality and the strengthening of regional literary mediation. The Cultural Department of the Office of the Vorarlberg State Government coordinates the procedure and supports the implementation of the projects. Interested parties are encouraged to plan and submit applications in order to actively shape the cultural diversity of Vorarlberg.
